Diamond Wedding Rings

The beauty of diamond wedding rings are that they can be worn by both men and women. They make a fabulous adornment for their wearer and as well as being aesthetically pleasing they carry deep sentiment and meaning. Diamonds are one of the most desirable substances in the universe. They first appeared in wedding bands and engagement rings in the 1500s. However there is evidence of the trade and exchange of individual diamonds as early as the fourth century BC.

Our love affair with diamonds

Throughout history diamonds have been linked to many beneficial, health and soul qualities. The Viking’s believed that diamonds could cure ailments ranging from fatigue to mental illness.Central Asian Kings and leaders often wore diamonds in battle as they were believed to give the individual wearing them strength and courage. Ancient Greeks believed that diamonds were splinters from falling stars whilst Romans believed that the tips of Cupid’s arrows were dipped in diamonds. It’s understandable from all of these sentimental associations why we have such an eternal love affair with diamonds.

The best things in life come to those who wait

Our historic, relishing connection with diamonds may seem like it has been going on forever. However if you consider that it takes between one billion and three billion years for one diamond to form, in comparison, our time on this planet hasn’t been that long at all! It’s a small reminder that the universe is timeless and is of a magnitude much larger than we could ever fully understand.

‘Lucy in the sky with diamonds’

The largest diamond ever found was not on planet earth but in a faraway galaxy, 50 lightyears away from here. The biggest diamond in the universe was discovered in 2004. Lucy, whose name was inspired by the classic Beatles track ‘Lucy in the sky with diamonds’,  is a crystallised white dwarf star entirely made of diamond, an incredible 10 billion, trillion, trillion carats of universal magic. This beautiful star would definitely make a lot of diamond wedding rings!

No Pressure, No Diamond

Diamonds are made of a single element—they’re nearly 100% carbon. Diamonds are usually found at least 90 miles deep, deep down in the earth’s crust. Far below the earth’s surface, under immense heat and pressure, the carbon atoms bond in such an extraordinary and magical way. This results in the hypnotic and unique crystalline structure of diamonds that we all adore.

Rainbow Diamonds

Diamonds come in an array of the most marvellous colours, some of which are even more dazzling than the very desirable, perfect white diamond wedding ring. Diamonds come in shades of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, grey and even black, which is becoming more popular than ever for engagement rings and diamond wedding rings alike.

Carats in Diamonds

The procedure for determining the carats in gold versus the carats in diamonds are quite different.  The carats in gold are valued based on its purity whereas the carats calculated in diamonds are determined using its weight. There are complex mathematical equations used to do this however the simplified formula is ‘one carat of diamond weighs 200 milligrams’. This is why the price of a diamond is determined using a mixture of elements including the carats it has, the purity and size of the stone as well the cut and colour of the diamond in question. We ensure the highest quality in diamonds and gold to create only the best diamond wedding ring for you.
